MEMORANDUM FOR THE CHAIRMAN, INTELLIGENCE INFORMATION
HANDLING COMMITTEE, USIB
SUBJECT: Use of Federal Information Processing Standards in
Exchange of Intelligence Data (C)
REFERENCES: (a) IHC-D-12 6/24 , 26 May 1971
NATIONAL SECURITY AGENCY
FORT GEORGE G. MEADE, MARYLAND 20755
(b) USIB-D-71.1/5, 19 May 1971
1. Of the six FIPS Publications listed in reference (a), four
have no bearing on NSA's rpission. They are: FIPS 5-1, 6-1, 8,
and 9. FIPS 4 and 10 have been implemented.
2. Twelve NSA files are presently being forwarded to USIB
member agencies. Only two files do not now conform to FIPS 4.
While NSA could effect a change in the FIPS 4 date format of those
files within two weeks, we feel this would be too disruptive to the
recipient. Negotiations have been opened with the recipient to
select an optimum file change date. When that date is determined
we will inform your Support Staff.
