SUBJECT: Information Regarding USIB Research Studies
Ad Hoc Committee to Study Legislation for
the Protection of Classified Intelligence
Information
Information requested in USIB-D-27.1/ 22 is listed below:
a. The object of the subject committee is to
develop legislation designed to give better protection
to sensitive intelligence information and sources than
currently exists.
b. Authority - USIB-D-9. 6/4, 4 October 1960,
ad hoc.
c. An interdepartmental group of legal offices of
the interested departments and agencies, chaired by
the CIA General Counsel, is conducting the study.
d. The ad hoc committee will report its results
and recommendations to the USIB Security Committee
for presentation to USIB.
e. If approved by USIB, the report of the committee
will be forwarded to the Department of Justice for consid-
eration as to whether the Administration should propose
its enactment to the Congress.
f. The final report of the committee is in preparation
but recurrent emergent matters have delayed its completion;
however, it should be ready for presentation in a matter of
weeks.
