At its meeting on 18 July 1962 the United States Intelligence Board (USIB) approved retention of the Critical Collection Problems Committee subject to a broadening of its charter in DCID No. 2~2. The Chairmanship of the CCPC, which DCID No. 2~2 states shs.11 be provided by the ,Director of Central Intelligence, has been vacant since Mr. Robert Amory resigned his position with the Central Intelligence Agency. 2. I am therefore designating of the Office of Scientific Intelligence ( , , Chairman of the Critical Collection Problems Committee. He has had many years o~ high-level experience in intelligence, including an unusually extensive participation in highly sensitive collection systems. He has worked with the CCPC since its founding and has, in fact, chaired its most active task force. His responsibilities within QSI are sufficiently flexible to permit him to devote a mayor part of his time to CCPC activities. 3. My designation of or this post reflects the great importance which a-- ac o t e work of the, CCPC in assisting USIB to stimulate and improve collection action in critical foreign intelligence fields.
