MEMORANDUM FOR THE RECORD
SUBJECT : The New Defense Mapping Agency
of DIA Mapping and Charting called
regarding the conso a on of all DoD mapping and charting
activities under He noted that this 25X1
would be a large organization to 10 ousand people) with a
status equivalent to that of DIA. He pointed out that portions of
this organization had worked closely with COMIREX and there
was a good deal of interest in COMIREX activities as well as
some other USIB committees. His basic question was how this
organization could dovetail into the USIB structure. Asking if
membership in USIB for was a practical solution, 25X1
I advised him that membership was probably out of the question
both because of previous precedents and the fact that it would
require revision of NSCID No.. 1. ecognized this. 25X1
2. I suggested that an effort be made to establish and main-
tain close informal working relationships between the USIB 25X1
committee structure and organization. I
recommended that if any kind of formal relationship was desired,
it should be initiated for 25X1
25X1
following consultation with appropriate people, . e. g.
r -1 I suggested the possibility of exchange
25X1
of letters between the DCI and,
25X1
I also indicated that attendance at USIB meetings by
for specific items of special interest to him might well
be arranged. I also recommended that F 25X1
organization maintain a close relationship with the DIA members
of appropriate USIB committees. In closing the conversation I
asked to keep the USIB Secretariat informed if any
move should develop to establish anything more than informal,
albeit close, working relationships between the new mapping and
charting organization and the USIB committees, particularly
COMIREX.
