Dear General Walters:

I would like to express my appreciation and gratitude for
the support you have given to foreign area officers through
the years and for your graduation presentation to the offi-
cers of FAOC 2-76.
You personify the ideal foreign area officer and your
experiences provided a fitting sendoff to members of the
class as they embarked on their new assignments. The
example of your career, particularly the professional
rewards resulting from close official and personal rela-
tionships with friend and foe alike, will serve as an
inspiration to the class in their efforts to serve their
country in positions requiring military and political
awareness.
Along with our thanks, please accept our best wishes upon
your retirement. We all take comfort in the knowledge that
you support the Institute's educational mission and have
agreed to return in the future to pass along your experi-
ences and invaluable knowledge to my faculty and students.
