E. H. Knoche, Esq.
Deputy Director, CIA,
LANGLEY, Virginia
Dear Hank:
Frances and I were delighted1to read of your appointment,
and I hasten t
'
o convey to yo
tenure and all the strength
against the would-be destroy
our best wishes for a lengthy
od may grant you to stand up
ors of the Agency.
I do not know George Bush
of letters with him when heerasnheading uthe RepublicanaNationa
Committee, and I think a lo.tjof him. I am certain that teaming
up with him will be an avenue to sure success for the valuable
services of the entire intelligence community.
Retirement in Santa Barbara has its good points. Frances is
now free to spend the entire day "monitoring" recipes from some
of our thirty cook books; P have been up to my neck, these
last two years, with the proofreading of my "English-Greek
Dictionary of Pure and Applied Mathematics". It turned out to
be a two-volume work (some 30,000 terms). It is published
by the Technical Chamber of Greece, which is quite an honor for
me, considering that I am introducing into the Greek Language
several hundred Greek terms as equivalents of the terms coined
in the States these last forty years in the field of theoretical
mathematics and in the areas of computer and space sciences,
engineFring, physics, management, and other disciplines; and that
its lengthy preface is very critical of the Greek "professionals",
at all levels, for their indifference to precision and clarity.
When ready, sometime in the next two months, I will make a point
of sending you a copy.
Back in 1971 you expressed a hope that our paths might cross
again sometime. Thus, if duty or pleasure finds you in or near
Santa Barbara, we know a couple of good restaurants where the
owners make every effort to satisfy our rather discerning tastes.
With warm regards for Angie and yourself from both of us,
