SUBJECT . Request for an Official.Vehicle for the
Director
Jack:
1. In answer to your request regarding
an official vehicle for the Director, we have viewed and
inspected the various sedans which fall within the General
Services Administration's approved guidelines. Specifica-
tions for each of the sedans inspected are attached for
your information.
2. Our findings showed that both the
Ford LTD and Torino were rather awkward to enter since
the door opening was not squared off. Seating in both
was comfortable but there was almost no headroom. While
,the Dodge Monaco and the Plymouth Fury had good headroom,
they were awkward to enter and generally not too roomy.
3. In our opinion, the best of the group
was the Chevrolet Impala in terms of ease of entry and rear
seat comfort, and the statistics bear this out.
4. We have spoken to the General Services
Administration about the possibility of procuring whatever
vehicle we decide upon and have been told they will do S%TATINTL
upon submission of a requisition signed by this office. STATINTL
Delivery time will take approximately 1 week, de nding
upon the accessories and color we will require.
5. If it is agreeable to the Director, we
would propose to obtain a 1976 Chevrolet Impala for a test
drive prior to the time we submit the requisition to the
General Services Administration.

1. So that you do not think the matter of your
car has been forgotten, let me give you a brief status
report.
2. As you may or may not know, types, sizes and
weights of cars are established by GSA Directive for the
senior hierarchial positions in government. We have
identified the three largest types we can acquire. I
have an individual (who is 6' 21' tall) who will go out
and, first, measure the actual entry areas and, secondly,
from the exercise of getting in and out, come up with
a judgment as to which has the easiest ingress and egress.
When we have all the facts, will be back in touch.
