TATINTL Approved For Reese 2002/01/03: CIA-RDP79M00467A ;; . -: 10 November 1976 Fa+e^ut: ve Ra;~ietsp MEMORANDUM FOR: Deputy Director of Central Intelligence John H. Waller Inspector General SUBJECT: Keeping Senate Select Committee on Intelligence Generally Informed Regarding Conclusions Reached by the Inspection Staff REFERENCE: Attached Informal Note 1. One suggestion as to how to proceed in keeping "the Committee informed on (IG)findings", as you promised in your hearings, would be for the IG Staff to provide a paper for the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, in early January 1977, giving it the conclusions of our Phase I DD component surveys. 2. We could subsequently do the same with general conclusions reached as a result of the more traditional, in-depth, sub-component inspections -- or at least those in which the Senate Select Committee expresses an interest. 3. The solution to the problem would seem to be in the drafting of conclusions in a way suitable for the Senate without breaching the confidentiality of those who talk with our inspectors, and without making a precedent which could inhibit subsequent inspectors from "telling it like it is". 4. If you agree, for starters; we will try our hand at paraphrasing the conclusions of Phase I surveys in January when they are finished. Let's see what they look like and go on from there. 5. The conclusions from Audit reports of interest to the Senate should pose minimum problems of sterilization. .~ CS-g~? IG:JHWALLER:hj ~ r h H.
