Attached for your signature is a letter to Bob
Ellsworth in response to his suggestion that the
Strategic Warning Staff be tasked "to organize
a review of current indicator lists for the NATO
area, Korea, and the Mideast."
As agreed at the DIA I&W Conference (June 1976),
the SWS is already undertaking such a project and
plans to present its findings late this year at
the next I&W Conference.
I see no need to task the SWS but would advise
sending a copy of the attached letter to Linc
Faurer.

I have taken note of your suggestion that the
Strategic Warning Staff (SWS) be tasked to organize a
review of current indicator lists for the NATO area,
Korea, and the Mid-East.
It is my understanding that the SWS, as agreed at
the recent DIA I&W Conference (9-10 June 1976), has
undertaken such a project. The results of this review
should answer many of the points you have raised and
should be available for the next I&W Conference.
I believe, with you, that there is merit in such
a review, and I will look to Linc Faurer to keep me
informed on the progress and findings of the survey.
