MEMORANDUM FOR: Representatives of the National Foreign Intelligence Board
SUBJECT Update Estimative Memorandum on the State of the Rhodesia/
Zimbabwe Insurgency
1. You will recall that last February we proposed mid-July as an
approximate time to update the community's views on two questions re
Rhodesia:
-- the status of the insurgency and counter-insurgency efforts
-- the effects of economic pressures.

2. We now would like to examine the feasibility of analytical memoranda
offering the community's current readings on these questions. To that end,
I propose an exploratory meeting on Monday, 11 July, at 1400 hours, in Room
5G00 of CIA Headquarters. Please come armed not only for some substantive
discussion of the two topics, but also with your thoughts (and those of
your principals, if available) on the usefulness of papers on these subjects
in the immediate. future.
Friday, 8 July, with the names of your representatives to the meeting. Arrange-
ments will be made for them to enter the building at the main entrance and to
receive badges from the receptionists.
