largely due to improved food, consumer goods supply.
A. Workers no longer expect miracles, are resigned to slow
progress,
Nevertheless, economic situation remains serious and is
causing fluctuations in public morale. Ra.w ma.teria.ls are
short, employment is down and inflation threatens.

II. Gomulka, regime weakened by party disunity and strife.
A. Gomulka, has only small group of firm followers--others support
him as ma,tter of expediency, but are not in sympathy his views,

not plan severe disciplinary measures.
