Workers no longer expect miracles, are resigned to slow progress, Nevertheless, economic situation remains serious and is causing fluctuations in public morale. Ra.w ma.teria.ls are short, employment is down and inflation threatens. 1. Morale also affected by Soviet "presence"--a, pall over all Poland. 25X1X7 2. II. Gomulka, regime weakened by party disunity and strife. A. Gomulka, has only small group of firm followers--others support him as ma,tter of expediency, but are not in sympathy his views, 1. Gomulka, has sharply reproved liberals for their criticism of Soviets and hasty reform demands, but does not plan severe disciplinary measures. 2.
