NSC 5819, Part 7 B. NSC 5810/1 The President has directed that the departments and agencies respon- sible for the several national security programs prepare annually reports on the status of these programs for the information of the President and the National Security Council. As requested by the-President, these reports should emphasize primarily trends as of the reporting date in comparison with the date of the preceding report (in this case, June 30, 1958) and similar dates in future years .so far as they can be reasonably projected. Such trends should be expressed in terms of an integrated appraisal of the status of ,e7.ch program in achieving the objectives: set forth in applicable national security policies, particularly NSC 5810/1. This appraisal should take into account not only developments in the U. S. programs but also developments elsewhere in the Free World and in the Soviet Bloc which affect the ability of the program to achieve policy objectives. The President has further directed that each status report be as concise as possible consistent with adr:quate presentation. Accordingly, it is requested that the Central Intelligence Agency, in consultation with other departments and agencies as may be appropriate, and with the assistance of the NSC Staff, submit not later than September 1, 1959, a report on the status of the foreign intelligence program as of June 30, 1959. The content of this report should follow the general lines of Part 7 of NSC 5819. *NSC Declassification/ Release Instructions on File* S/ JAMES S.
