SUBJECT: Forthcoming National Intelligence Estimates
1. In line with the system initiated some months ago, I am
sending you herewith a list of national intelligence estimates
scheduled by the USIB for the next two quarters, together with
approximate completion dates and the names of Board and Staff
members primarily responsible in each case. The schedule is com-
plete for the second quarter -- though as usual one or more SNIE's
may be laid on at short notice; the third quarter program is a
skeleton list, and will be expanded three months hence.
2. As before, I am sending this list in multiple copies,
and asking that it be given distribution to the people in the
various Divisions who might have substantive contributions to
make. Frequent contact between our staff people and yours is now
a matter of routine, but I believe this list continues to be
useful as a means of advance and systematic notice of work in
train. It should be noted that. the period of most active work
on an estimate is normally in the two or three weeks prior to
its consideration by the USIB.
