SUBJECT: ORR Contribution to HIE-33: "European Satellite Power Complex"
1. The individual country studies which form Part I of ORR's
contribution to 'HIE-33 are approaching completion. The first of
these, "Albania," will be forwarded separately within a day or two,
and the.others will follow as they are completed.
2. Part II of ORR's contribution, a study of the integration
of Satellite economies, will be submitted on or before 16 July*
3. The preparation of studies on the individual Satellite
economies has been undertaken as a continuation of the inventory
of ORR's capabilities and ignorance which was begun with a similar
study of the USSR. The studies are, therefore, more detailed than
would have been required for a contribution to NIE-33 had this been
our only objective. They also contain appendices which describe
the limitations on presently available information and the require-
ments for additional collection and research. Summaries have been
provided throughout to facilitate the use of the papers in con-
nection with the preparation of NIE-33.
4. In view of the short period available for the research on
this project, it is recognized that the papers are correspondingly
limited. They represent, nevertheless, the beat that could be
prepared under the circumstances, and it is hoped that they will
serve your purposes.
