Inasmuch as the Department of mate is beaming for its contribution
to the NIS Program for the first time in Fiscal Year 1960 it is probable that
they will need support from the Agency in defending their appropriations re-
quest. The Director wishes to support the Department of State in this matter
to the best of our ability. You are, therefore, requested to keep In touch
with the appropriate personnel in the Department of State in order to as-
certain when they may be required to defend this particular item. As far in
advance of the date as possible you should alert Mr. Armory who will take
appropriate action to assist the Department with their request.
