SUBJECT EIC Documents Being Reviewed for Downgrading
or Declassification
1. Documents from the 1950s of a type similar to
EIC-SR-1 may be declassified. We find no classified or
sensitive material in the sample (EIC-SR-1) and have no
reason to continue the classification.
2. You may downgrade EIC-SR-3 (30 June 1955) from
SECRET/NOFOREIGN to CONFIDENTIAL/NOFOREIGN. Material
in the text does not appear to require classification at
this date but'some of the references in the source list
should remain classified for a time.
3. The Chairman of the Economic.Int:elligence Committee
has made the determination that you must go back to
INDIVIDUAL EIC member Agencies for clearance/approval in
downgrading or declassifying reports such as the working
paper on Chinese Railroads where Agencies have made separate
comments within the text and identified those comments as
their Agency's view.
