National Aeronautics and Span Administration ATTENTION: Acting Director. Security Division JECT: ERNCL: Soviet Electronic Equipment in Cuba Letter of 27 September 1962. see subject 1. The statements by the Cuban Revolutionary Council and .Foss Mir* Cardon& concerning Cuban interference with U. S. missile launchings are partly valid in that Cuba has ome capability to interfere electronically. Soviet electronic equipment recently installed has increased Cuban capability to interfere. The missiles so far reported as being installed in Cuba would not have the necessary rang to intercept a U. S. vehicle launched from Caps Canaveral. Z. We have no information on which to base an opinion as to whether or not the Cubans intend to interfere. 4. A total of 27 high power radars and 41 law power radars of Soviet origin are believed to be in operation in Cuba at the present time. The presence of high power VHF-FM and HF broadcasting stations in Cuba, of course, poses an additional potential threat since such Cuban stations DOCUMENT NO.
