Approved For Release 2006/12/27: CIA-RDP79T004 SECRET 1' OCI-0471/63 CENTRAL INTELLIGENCE AGENCY Office of Current Intelligence 15 January 1963 CURRENT INTELLIGENCE MEMORANDUM SUBJECT: Indian Arms Situation and Western Assistance 1. We have no hard information on the extent of India's materiel losses during the two bouts of fighting in the fall of 1962. The Indians themselves probably have not yet worked up an accurate tally of their equip- ment losses. 2. We believe, however, that Indian losses-- primarily in mortars and small arms--had been made up by the first of the year and that a net gain has been registered since then. Certainly there has been a qualitative gain. 3. We do not have good information on the status of negotiations between.India and the other countries, but receipt of all materiel offered by these countries would, add measurably to these gains, both quantitatively and qualitatively. 4. A tabulation of Western military assistance delivered and offered to India i e Octo1er 1962 is appended. 'v1!
