This area is a few miles southwest of Santiago and near the mountains where leftist extremists attempted their guerrilla operation in late 1963. A small group of extremists who had left the area for Santo Domingo early in the insurrection have now returned. Radio Santo Domingo, now back in rebel hands and broadcasting again, transmitted informa- tion on more appointments by the Caamano govern- ment. A broadcast of 9:00 pm EDT tonight reported that Canonabo Javier Castillo had been appointed a special delegate to the Chilean government. This man is known to be a member of the radical faction of the Social Christian Revolutionary Party (PRSC) of the Dominican Republic. He is likely to have considerable influence with mem- bers of the Christian Democratic Party of Chile, which has previously been reported joyful over what it interpreted to be Christian Democratic in- fluence in Caamano's government.
