An article in the North Vietnamese party daily highlights the diffi- culties encountered by the regime in carrying out the evacuation of cities and populated regions. I. The Military Situation in South Vietnam: Korean and American forces established contact with Communist forces as Operation PAUL REVERE II con- tinues in Pleiku and Kontum provinces (Paras. 1-2). As many as 150 Viet Cong were killed by US Marines participating in Operation COLORADO in Quang Tin Province (Para. 3). Three US Army battalions be- gin Operation TOLEDO in Long Khanh and Binh Tuy provinces (Para. 4). The Trai Bi Special Forces Camp was attacked again yesterday by the Viet Cong in an apparent test of the camp's defenses (Para. 5). US aircraft hit a village while Viet Cong guerrillas held the villagers hostage (Para. 7). The Viet Cong are apparently concerned about the quality of their cadres and party :members in the Mekong Delta area (Paras. 8-11). NOTE: "The Weekly Review of South Vietnam Battle Statistics" and the "Monthly Battle Sta- tistic Charts" will be published when complete figures become available. II. Political Developments in South Vietnam: The Viet Cong have issued more threats against Vimytex Textile Plant management personnel in the wake of the recent killing of a plant foreman (Paras. 1-2). Ky begins hisgocd-will visit to the Philippines (Paras. 3-4). The Central Election Re- view Committee completes its screening of candidates for the National Constitutional Assembly (Paras. 5-6). III. North Vietnamese Military Developments: There is nothing of significance to report. IV. Other Communist Military Developments: There is nothing of significance to report.
