Arab,"Israeli Situation Report
1, The Israelis this morning shattered a de
facto ceasefire agreement with Jordan, according to
Husayn. The King told the US Embassy that despite
Jordan's decision last night to stop fighting -- which
was apparently passed to Tel Aviv -- the Israelis are
now "attacking in force along the entire front." He
said that he fears Israel may drop paratroops on the
East Bank, The King has appealed to the US, UK, French,
and Soviet Ambassadors "to beg your governments to
stop this massive violation of the ceasefire." The Is-
raelis apparently have Jerusalem completely encircled
and are pressing hard all along the West Bank salient.
Amman has announced that Husayn is to make a radio
address this morning.
2. Tel Aviv has announced that Israeli armed
forces in the Sinai Peninsula are driving along three
axes toward the Suez Canal, and may cut off the bulk of
two retreating Egyptian divisions. Announced Israeli
objectives are Qantara, Ismailia and Port Toufiq, all
near the Canal, Some Israeli elements are already said
to have reached Romani, about 20 miles from the Canal,
3. Cairo radio admitted on 7 June that Egyptian
forces are now fighting on "the second line" in Sinai
as a result of "air.activity of the enemy on the front
supported by foreign forces." The Egyptians claim to
have downed eight Israeli aircraft over Sinai "this
morning,"

4. On 7 June Damascus radio alleged that Syrian
forces have occupied the Huleh plain in Israel and are
chasing Israeli forces "toward Nazareth." The Israeli
radio's counterclaim that the Syrian border is now
quiet appears more credible.
5, Further demonstrations against US installations
have occurred. A mob surrounded the American Consulate
General in Dhahran,. Saudi Arabia yesterday for approxi-
mately one hour. The demonstrators stoned out windows
and attacked cars, but there were no injuries to Con-
sulate General personnel, In Algeria, demonstrations
took place on 6 June at the consulates at Oran and Con-
stantine. Crowds were held in check in Algiers on the
same day.
6. Saudi Arabia apparently joined Algeria, Kuwait,
Lebanon, Syria and Iraq today in cutting off oil ship-
ments to the West, The Saudi radio announced that the
cabinet has decided "to immediately suspend the export
of oil to the states which support the Zionist gangs."
7. Baghdad has announced that Iraq will not abide
by the Security Council ceasefire resolution. There is
no official confirmation of press reports that Cairo
has also refused to accept the resolution, but the Cairo
radio is continuing to broadcast calls for all-out war
against Israel, A meeting of Arab foreign ministers
is scheduled to be held tomorrow in Kuwait, The con-
ference was apparently called by Iraq following the
allegations of American and British support for Israel,
8. The USSR has mentioned but has not joined in
the chorus of Arab claims that the US and UK have given
direct military support to the Israelis. TASS, in
commenting on yesterday's Security Council resolution,
catalogues the remarks of the various delegates -- in-
cluding Fedorenko -- who condemned Israel and urged
an agreement on a withdrawal of forces.

1. An official in the Israel Ministry of Defense
stated this morning that Foreign Minister Eban's agree-
ment to the UN ceasefire resolution will not interfere
with the goals of Israel's current operation. General
Moshe Dayan, the new minister of defense, will turn a
"blind eye" on any attempt to interrupt the course of
events, The official added that there has been a
television broadcast from Cairo showing a captured
Israeli pilot being hacked to death with axes and
knives by an Egyptian mob.
3. The emergency meeting of the Security Council
called by the Soviet Union this afternoon convened
shortly after 1:00 p.m. and Moscow tabled a resolu-
tion which noted that despite the Security Council's
appeal for a ceasefire, military action in the area
continues. It called for all parties to abide by a
ceasefire set for 4:00 p.m. Washington time today.
4, King Husayn is continuing to call for a cease-
fire, but Israel's forces are still advancing. Earlier
today the King formally notified the U.N. Security
Council of his acceptance of the ceasefire, and Radio

Amman continues to broadcast the news of Jordan's accept-
ance. Meanwhile, Jordan's Chief of Staff, Khammash,
informed U.S. officials that his military units on the
West Bank are being badly mauled, as they attempt to
withdraw East of the Jordan river. There are no reports
yet of Israeli forces crossing that river.
5. Official reports have reached the British
government that Israeli forces have reached the east
bank of the Suez Canal, according to press reports
from London, It has also been confirmed publicly by
an Israeli army spokesman that Israeli forces have
captured Sharm-ash-.Shaykh.
6. The Lebanese Prime Minister announced this
morning that his country "will take measures to sever
relations with the U.S."
9. Despite press reports that some French ships
are continuing to pass through the Suez Canal, all
available information indicates that the Canal remains
closed.

10. A series of riots has broken out in Dhahran,
Saudi Arabia. Aramco shut down its refinery and load-
ing facilities after agitators blocked their gates.
Several hours later Aramco was hit by a mob which broke
in the gates, looting and overturning cars. Another
mob surrounded the American consulate for about an hour,
and then moved to the airbase where it demonstrated at
the U.S. Military Training Mission headquarters and
family quarters. Despite the fact that women and
children were inside, homes were entered and almost
everything inside destroyed. The military airlift
command terminal was gutted. In Khartoum, a U.S.
marine's house was entered and its furniture burnt,
and another house was reportedly attacked.
11. An official of the Saudi Foreign Ministry
stated that Saudi Arabia will not approve the U.N.
ceasefire resolution "unless Palestine is restored
to its people."

British forces are actively aiding the Israelis. F
Damascus
radio reported that U.S. infantry participated in
battles in Jerusalem and Cairo radio claims that
British Canberra. hnmh r. have struck Syrian front
line positions.

Arab-Israeli Situation Report

1, The Security Council unanimously passed a second
ceasefire resolution. Canada then proposed a resolution
that the President and the Secretary General take all
means to bring about effective compliance. This
raises the question of whether the Soviet Union and
France will agree in effect to giving peacekeeping
powers to the Secretary General, Both have in the past
sought to limit the peacekeeping powers of the Secretary
General, In the debate this afternoon the UAR representative
asked the Council to condemn Israel as the agressor and
to call for withdrawal of troops to truce lines. This
resolution has not been tabled.
3. A report today broadcast by Cairo radio stating
that Nasir had sent messages to Boumedienne, Iraqi
President Arif, King Husayn, and Syrian Head of State

Atassi presumably is connected with the effort to organize
a conference.
4. Algeria today called on the Soviet Union for
firmer support for the Arabs in the war with Israel,
a press report from Algiers quotes official sources as
saying. The plea reportedly was contained in a message
from Boumedienne to Kosygin and was promoted by the Soviet
acceptance of the resolution in the Security Council
last night which caused "strong displeasure" in Algeria?
5. President Bourgiba has told the Tunisian
army contingent which is to go to the UAR, that he is
first sending a delegation to Cairo to determine the exact
manner in which the contingent will be employed. The
US Embassy in Tunis interprets the sending of this
delegation as a means of avoiding the immediate dispatch
of the troops, while at the same time demonstrating
solidarity with the Arabs.
6. During a cabinet meeting today, Lebanon
decided to recall its ambassadors from the US and Great
Britain and to request the withdrawal of the representatives
of those countries from Lebanon. This does not appear
to be a full diplomatic break.
7. An explosion hit the Shell Oil Company storage
depot in Beirut last night, after a day of anti-Western
demonstrations; 100,000 tons of oil were reportedly
destroyed in the ensuing fire. Although the tanks were
marked with Shell, they apparently were owned by
Lebanese, not American interests.
8. Israel*s three-pronged attack across Sinai
appears to have accomplished most of its objectives,
The armoured thrust along the Mediterranean coast has
apparently reached the environs of the Suez Canal; the
central drive has reached Bir Gafgafa, about 55 miles from
its objective, Ismailia; and the southern attack has
reached the Mitla Pass, some 30 miles from Port Taufiq.
The Egyptian forces appear to be pulling back to the
canal. Israeli aircraft have been attacking bridges
and ferries over the canal as well as Port Taufiq?
9. Israeli troops in Jordan have taken Jericho
and Bethlehem, Hebron is under Attack and the UN
representative there is attempting to facilitate a
surrender to prevent destruction of the city, Israel

appears to control nearly all the West Bank, The
Jordanian prime minister admitted this afternoon that
all Jordanian brigades have lost up to 80% of their
strength and are mostly out of ammunition? All their
tanks, motorized equipment and other vehicles have either
been destroyed or abandoned. The retreating troops are
being strafed by aircraft and artillery, In Jerusalem
the Israelis have captured 4000 prisoners,
10, Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Dayan is
quoted by the press as saying Israel would never give
back Jerusalem to the Arabs. The Israelis are taking
steps to cope with feeding and housing problems in the
Old City in the aftermath of the fighting. They also
are permitting buses with "delirious" school children
from the Israeli sector to make tours through t
damaged former Jordanian sector
all resistance had not yet
ceased. There was scattered firing in the Old City and
in one area outside of it, the US
Consulate in the former Jor avian sector tooX several
direct hits from artillery and mortars.
11. Late information indicates that oil production
in Qatar is still about two-thirdts of capacity and
that Aba Dhabi also is in production. Saudi Arabia
has now formally forbidden shipments of oil to the US
and UK. ARAMCO has complied with this order. Apparently,
shipments to other states will continue. Although Libya
has felt obliged to close down production and export
of oil, the Government has told oil operators and experts
to stand fast in order to reopen production when it
becomes feasible.

Arab--Israeli Situation Report
(As of 8'.30 p.m. EDT)
1. Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Dayan announced
at a press conference today that Israel will allow
Egyptian ships to pass through the Strait of Tiran. "It
is an international waterway," he declared,.
2,: The. Israelis have denied the BBC report
that Israeli forces have crossed the Suez Canal and
entered Ismailia? The Israelis are claiming that Egyptian
forces are in total disarray, that Israel is in control
of most of the "relevant" parts of Sinai, that most of
the Jordanian army and an Iraqi brigade operating in
Jordan have been captured, and that Israeli forces have
reached Mt. Hebron and the Jordan River. The Israeli
Air Force now claims to have destroyed a total of 441
Arab aircraft. Israeli. claims may be somewhat exaggerated,
but Jordanian military forces appear to be disintegrating,
and the Egyptians may be close to a complete collapse.
Egyptian forces in the Gaza Strip have formally surrendered
unconditionally.
4. This morning, Cairo radio, in its domestic
broadcasts, began putting out more songs and slogans
extolling Nasir and stressing popular faith in him.
This may reflect the regime's concern over what some
foreign diplomats view as a state of panic in Egypt and

as a growing conviction there that Egyptian military
losses spell the end of the Nasir regime.
`roaay's Izvestia carries a report from London thaw
several ra countries broke off diplomatic relations
with Britain because "according to information from
the Arab side, the British air force took direct part
in military action, providing an umbrella for attacking
Israeli troops." The newspaper did not mention similar
Arab allegations that American aircraft aided Israel.
6. The press is reporting from Amman tonight
that foreign military attaches there have been informed
that Jordan had no knowledge of action by the US and
British planes over Jordan.
8. The US Embassy in Amman reports that, as a
result of the military action on the West Bank, refugees
from that area are beginning to stream into the East
Bank, principally to Amman. The Embassy believes the
number may reach tens of thousands and that, in any case,
their arrival in Amman will create problems of food
and housing as well, as disorder., possibly directed toward
Americans.
9. A mob of about 500 in an ugly mood has
gathered in al-Khobar, a Saudi town near Dhahran. The
US Consulate considers local defense forces inadequate
to protect Americans in Dhahran if the mob should
move there on, a rampage. Saudi officials, however, feel
that troops on hand are sufficient to handle the
situation, and claim that ringleaders of the previous

demonstration have been picked up,; Some Saudi troops
are now stationed at. the Dhahran airport, the Consulate-
General, and at the ARAMCO installation--all of which
were damaged by a mob earlier in the day?
12, Moroccan Foreign Minister Laraki informed the
US Embassy last night "in strictest confidence" that
Morocco had airlifted twenty soldiers yesterday to Libya,
ostensibly for onward movement to Egypt, as a demonstration
of Moroccan support for the Arab cause, Laraki added,
however, that the troops were in Benghazi, Libya, that
the King had ordered that they remain there, and that no
more troops would be sent.,
13, Iran continues to give verbal support to the
Arab cause, but official circles apparently are delighted
that Nasir is taking a beating, The Shah, who returned
to Teheran tonight, was asked by the press whether Iran
would stop selling oil. to Israel. He replied, "We are
not selling petrol to Israel. We sell to the companies
and they sell. We cannot control where they sell oil."
14. In Indian Kashmir, pro-Arab demonstrations have
turned into riots against the state Congress Party
government.

Arab-Israeli Situation Report
As -3- f 11 a0 a.m. E
1. The U.N. Security Council?s ceasefire re-
solution continues to be ignored by the combatants in
the Middle East, While some reports tell of Egyptian
acceptance, Baghdad radio today reported that "Egypt
has announced that it will not accept the Security
Council resolution calling for a ceasefire, and that
it will continue the war." King Husayn of Jordan is
reported to have accepted a ceasefire but Israeli
forces apparently have continued their attack. In
a speech at noon Jordan time, possibly reflecting
his resignation that a ceasefire would not be effect-
ive, he urged his citizens to "fight until. the end
and until we die."

Israeli army spokesman announced that Israeli troops
had taken Romani, only 20 miles from the Suez Canal.
5. Charges of American participation in the
hostilities continue to proliferate in the Arab
world and appear to be generally believed. F
An editorial in Egypt's
semi-authoritative al Ahram claimed that American
aircraft operated onlyr
inside Israeli air space, so
that if a plane were shot down there would be no in-
criminating evidence outside Israeli territory.
Evidence advanced in support of the charge indluded
the allegation that downed Israeli pilots carried
aerial photographs of Egyptian positions that "could
only have been taken by the U.S."

there were no casualties and no damage. A crowd of
about 150 stoned the American embassy in Damascus and
sacked the American and British consulates in Aleppo;

The pipeline in Abu Dhabi has been closed down, and
there have been threats to blow it up. One pipeline
has already been blown up in Qatar, and a fire has been
reported in an unspecified installation there. Saudi
Arabia's ban on oil has been extended to nations other
than Britain and the U.S., a Norwegian and a West Ger-
man tanker have been refused permission to load.
90 A[auritania has officially broken off diplomatic
relations with the U.S. The Sudanese Foreign Minister
has explained that although the Sudan is breaking off
diplomatic relations with the U.S., the government would
like to retain economic, cultural, and consular relations.
10. Israeli forces continue to plunge forward in
their effort to takeover the West Bank. They have cap-
tured Ramallah and Nablus, major road junctions 10 and
30 miles north of Jerusalem respectively.
Heau fighting, however,
appears to continue. Within Jerusalem Israeli troops
continue to mop up isolated pockets and have taken
Mount Scopus.
11, The Soviet Union has called an emergency meet-
ing of the Security Council, which is expected to con-
vene in a few hours.
