The scope of the annual Congressional Briefing Package (260 pages and 96 graphics last year) requires a substantial head start before the Congress returns to town. The general aim is to have the completed book in DCI's hands on or about 3 January to allow time for his review, revisions, and updating/corrections before the probable opening of the briefing season about 9 January. 2. Attached are suggested outlines for the 1967 Briefing Package. These are not to be construed as exclusive, but merely provide a possible framework around which you are asked to build the briefing you consider necessary. Countries and topics can be added or omitted. 3. Last year's (and a fairly comprehensive 6 Oct 66 Briefing for the Senate Preparedness Inves- tigating Subcommittee) are available for inspection o' copying in Presentation Staff, but are not attached because a review of January '64,'65,and '6STriefings showed a great deal of textual similarity, with only the numbers changed; it appears desirable to start from scratch with the wording to avoid a similar discovery by the intended briefees. 4. Deadlines: Contributions to Presentation Staff on orTiefore27 December 5. Graphics: Will be laid on as required between the submission of drafts and deadline 6 January. Present intention is to have them in Vu-Graph and Page-size Approved For Release 2007/09/21: CIA-RDP79TOO827AO00600010001-6 Approved For Release 2007/09/21: CIA-RDP79T00827A000600010001-6 vw~ *400 used.
