C. 20505 STATINTL Dear The purpose of this letter is to request your assistance in a special briefing for business and industrial executives and local civil defense directors at the Pentagon on the afternoon of March 22. This is a "post-conference" meeting of selected representatives of the U. S. Civil Defense Council. The USCDC is a national organization of local government civil defense directors from throughout the nation, including others who are engaged in civil defense activities in business and industry, hospitals, schools, churches, and other institutions. The business and industry members are represented by an "industry committee" which is a major segment of the Council organization. Other functional and divisional committees are likewise established as parts of the Council. The Council conducts two national meetings annually. One which is scheduled at various locations throughout the country, and the other, the "Mid-Year Meeting, " which is always scheduled for Washington, D. C. In addition, eight regional meetings are conducted annually. Attached is additional information regarding the history, organization, and officers of the Council. At each of the two annual meetings and the various regional meetings the Industry Committee of the Council sponsors programs designed to inform local CD Directors how to organize and operate an Industrial CD Program in their local government jurisdictions and to inform business and industrial leaders on current policy, programs, and activities useful to them in developing civil defense and survival plans in their respective companies. C. the Industry Committee has developed a program featuring a pro- gress report on industrial civil defense preparedness scheduled for the morning of March 22 at the Sheraton-Park Hotel and a special briefing at the Pentagon scheduled for the afternoon. Attached is a copy of the program agenda for the day. You are invited, to attend the entire meeting. Your participation is scheduled for the afternoon Pentagon session. You will notice that the agenda includes a very brief description of the subject matter of your presentation. Three subjects will be discussed. Following the third presentation a question and answer seminar will be conducted with the three speakers. STATINTL - the fine job you have done in giving an analysis of the world situation to other business and industrial groups has been very helpful and we are so very grateful. Some of the committee members who had heard you at other meetings were high in their praise of your presentations and were strong in their insistence that you do a repeat performance for this special group. I hope you will use some of your excellent visual aids, especially those that identify the geographic location -- on the map -- of various countries as you briefly identify their problems and the relations to the foreign policy and problems of other countries, especially as they relate to peace and war potential. Be sure to let me know the kind of projection equipment you will need. The President of the Council has advised that approximately 150 are expected to attend this special briefing. Be sure to let me know if I can provide other information. I am in the Pentagon, room #3D346, phone 695-5282, or 695-9606. .
