This model has been prepared in response to an NPIC Imagery Exploitation Group requirement.
Detailed analysis and specifications were provided by the requester.
1. (TSR) This model depicts the variable-geometry-winged BACKFIRE B. The
BACKFIRE B is the newest bomber in the Soviet inventory. This new bomber is a twin-
engine supersonic bomber and will replace the BADGER bomber.
2. (TSR) The wings on the model can be adjusted to portray the variable wing
configurations of the bomber itself (see illustrations). This model in conjunction with a
briefing board package is used to brief various intelligence agencies.
3. (S) This model has been prepared on the basis of detailed analysis and specifica-
tions provided by NPIC, Imagery Exploitation Group, Warsaw Pact Forces Division. Com-
ments and queries regarding the model may be directed to

This report announces the completion of a new, three-dimensional scale model which may be used as a visual aid for briefing or for aiding the
analyst in his study of this particular target. The model is available on short-term loan from NPIC to authorized personnel. Requests for loan
should be directed to the Briefing Coordination Section, Visual Presentations Branch, Imagery Services Division, Production Services Group, NPIC,
Room 4N20 The borrower must arrange for transporting the model in accordance with the appropriate securi-
ty regulations.
