DAILY BRIEF
*Britain: rThe US Embassy in London believes
that Lord Home may have some difficulty forming
a cabinet in
tive Party. yiew of opposition within the Conserva
(A,mong those who publicly stated. their opposi-
tion-When Home's designation was made known were
Chancellor of the Exchequer Maudling, President
of the Board of Trade Erroll, and. Party Cochairman
Macleod.
LThe embassy anticipates that Home may try to
make extensive cabinet changes. The important
question will be whether the younger ministerial
talent within the party will cooperate, Unless the
government retains the services of these men who
have done the most to remold the Conservative Party's
public image as "the party of the future," its electoral
position will be severely damaged.)l

Argentina: Left-wing Peronists and Argentine
Communists are stepping up their activities to embar-
rass and discredit the new government.
The activities are being directed by Hector Villa-
Ion's "Peronist Revolutionary Command," the extreme
left-wing faction of the Peronist movement. I
The Peronist Revolutionary Command sponsored
the 17 October demonstrations commemorating the 18th
anniversary of Peron's return from prison. A crowd
of about 50,000 persons was finally dispersed after a
two-hour battle with police.
The recent bombing of the US-Argentine Cultural
Center in Rosario was also the work of Villalon's group,
as was the pro-Cuban, anti-US demonstrations during
the. 12 October inauguration ceremonies.

Britain: The deputy secretary of the Ministry of
Aviation has Irkd a US embassy official that he "per-
sonally regretted" the failure of the US and UK to work
out a cooperative arrangement for developing a super-
sonic transport (SST), and implied that the matter
might still be reconsidered. The embassy in London
was unable to ascertain whether he was expressing a
personal or officially stimulated view. Under a French-
British agreement signed late last year the two coun-
tries are jointly developing a Mach 2.2 commercial
SST, the Concorde, whose first flight is scheduled
for 1966.
Dominican Republic: The ruling triumvirate is
still plagued by squabbles among its backers, and
military elements are considering a countercoup.
Several middle-level armed forces officers, long dis-
gusted with the profiteering and neglect of duty of
their leaders, reportedly are promoting plans to oust
the triumvirate. The would-be plotters do not appear
strong enough to act soon, according to US military
of icials in Santo Domingo.
