In a press conference on 29 August, Acting Pre- mier Oanh left the impression that Khanh9 now at the resort town of Dalat9 required prolonged medical treatment for physical and mental illness. jrior to meeting reporters, Oanh strongly implied to US Dep- uty Ambassador Johnson that Khanh was finished po- litically, but that the facade of the Khanh government was being maintained? These conflicting accounts reflect the continuing struggle for power among members of the current government. Despite his professed support for Khanh, Khiem may be maneuvering to try to undermine the influence of his colleagues in the triumvirate.
