USSR-CUBA: The Soviets appear to be sending
two guided patrol boats to Cuba.
Two ocean-going tugs sighted on 1 January some
1,100 miles east of Cuba were each towing an Osa-
class guided missile patrol boat with crew. If
these boats continue toward the Caribbean, it will
mark the first appearance of such craft in Cuban
waters.
The Osa is armed with four SS-N-2 guided mis-
siles which have a range of about 20 miles. The
Cubans currently have 18 of the Komar-class guided
missile patrol boats, but these have only two mis-
sile tubes.
