Attached is a regional listing of all known electric powerplants
In the USSR of 24 megawatts (mw) and over, giving the estimeted capacity
of the plants at the end of each year, fram 1961 to 1965. This listing
is set up according to the twelve economic regions of the USSR, with a
uubdivision for each Union Republic within an economic region. The
r.,entral Region of the RSFSR Economic Region VII) and the Ukrainian
Republic (Economic Region III) are further subdivided in accordance with
the breakdown of large economic regions of the USSR.
The capacity of individual powerplants is estimated on the basis
of all available information as of 31 May 1965. Information upon which
the estimates are based includes Soviet books, periodicals, newspapers,
and radio bruldcants, observation reports from returnees, travellers,
4nd exchimge delegations; and photographs. Estimates of new additions
,o capacity in individual powerplants through 1965 are based largely on
published Soviet plans and on estimated requirements for electeic power
by specific local industrial facilities.
In addition to capacities in plants 24 mw and over, estimates have
been made of the total installed capacity, including smaller powerplunts,
in each Union Republic and each economic region of the RSFSR, at the end
of each year, 1961-1965. In same cases figures have been published for

total capacities or total planned increases in capacities. Where such
information WAS not available, e.stimates were based on fraomentary bits
of information, and on planned production of electric power within the.
;4xecific region or Union Republic, together with estiaated average
nn.1 utilination of capacity.
