Approved For ReleasLfr00/08/29: CIA-RDP80-00308A0 1010040011-5DTR~?e d~. 27 December 1971 MEMORANDUM FOR: Deputy Director of Training SUBJECT : Senior Seminar 1. With reference to our conversation today, here are the DDP`s comments passed to me after his meeting with the CS officers who attended the first CIA Senior Seminar: a. We should do more in the Seminar on international communism, and on the critical importance of the Clandestine Service role in the counterespionage field, including the extensive overseas apparatus required to discharge this responsibility properly. b. CS panels appearing before the Seminar should be better briefed. I under stand that the panel which was charged with presenting a picture of the typical CS field station overseas was s mplY not properly briefed and prepared to work as a team in conveying such a picture accurately and effectively. We Just did not do a good job on this and invidious comparisons were drawn. c The course should be given only at such times as OTR can muster the requisite number of senior and fully qualified student candidates. It should not be scheduled for presentation at regular intervals because this will dilute the quality of the! student group, as has happened predictably in. the National Interdepartmental Seminar. 2. N,r Ape d. Most of the CS Reps felt that the course could easily be shortened, possibly to six weeks. Some felt that, in the presentations and discussions of the situation in several geographic areas, they have been burdened with far more detail than they really needed to have and that this was tiresome, n r Approved For Release 2000/08/29: CIA-RDPbd-0bLA000100010011-5 ,Approved For Release 08/29 : CJA-RQP~L-Q0308A000100 1-5 ap e. Finally. it was suggested that the DDP should be included somewhere along the line during the Seminar for an appearance at an appropriate juncture.
