I note from the Mediterranean Bureau Progress Report dated
2 April 19511, Para. B le that serious errors were made by a BBC
Bulgarian monitor in translating the Bulgarian Communist Party
Statutes broadcast in the Home Service March 081000, and that a
corrected version was furnished from Cyprus. As far as I can
determine no one at Caversham was made aware that this had been
done, nor was a copy of the re-translation received here.
It is my feeling that a copy of this new text ought to have
been mailed to London for the file of Bureau analysts and, at the
discretion of the Bureau Chief, for discussion with the BBC. I
an sure BBC would have been glad to have had a correct version to
show to the offending translator and to pass on to interested
clients.
It is recommended that this action be taken in future
instances of this kind.
