Box No. 1 KYRENIA, CYPRUS Foreign broadcast Information Service, 2130 E St. N.W., Washington 25, D.C. Subject: Biannual BBC-PHIS Coverage Coordination Meeting Attached hereto are five copies of the Minutes of the Seventh Biannual BBC-FBIS Coverage Coordination Meeting Held at Kyrenia, Cyprus, Wednesday 6 June 1956. I believe that the minutes are self-explanatory. Only one formal meeting was held but this was preceded (and followed) by several informal meetings and discussions between Mr. Brehm and members of the bureau staff. Brehm was also given a good picture of bureau operations and of the difficulties often experienced in attempting to comply with BBC requests and require- ments. I consider it a worthwhile visit. At first glance it might seem that these meetings accomplish little and are of small value. However, I believe that their real worth lies in the personal knowledge and insight gained, and in the closer acquaintanceship formed between BBC and FBIS staff members during the visits. I also believe that the visitor derives greater benefit than those visited. To date the BBC has had the greater share of the trips. I therefore recommend that these coordination meetings be continued and that this bureau be authorized to send a represent- ative to London at least once during each year.
