I am sorry to have been so vacillating shout Sheringham's
visit, but for your private information the position was that he
was being considered by the Corporation for another appointment,
and until that had been settled it was clearly unprofitable to
consider sending him on a liaison visit to you. This has now

and therefore I would like very much to propose that the twice

on leave at this time and I would not for a moment pro)ose that
he should change his plans - I know. and if you
have no objection I will carry on as planned and hold the meeting
wit It would be difficult for me to fix dates either
earlier or muc later in the year, and incidentally I would like
to he in Cyprus before the weather gets too hot.
As you will have heard, I had a discussion with
George Carey about the elevator here during his visit, and I will
wait to hear from you whether you wish me to proceed further.
If we are going to have it installed during this year, the sooner
the preliminary paper work is started, which will en,--,ble estimates
to be obtained, the better it will. be, since theme things are
always subject to many delays.
with kind regards,
Yours sincerely,
