20th January 1960
Dear Roger,
Many thanks for your signal agreeing to Sheringham's
trip as proposed by me in my letter of 29th December. The
tour has been. agreed in principle here, and I am proceeding to
make the necessary detailed arrangements.
Subject to your agreement, my proposed itinerary for
Sheringham is as follows:
Washington 24th February - 5th March - / a
San Francisco 5th March - 10th " -??-~-31 -X
Tokio 12th - 16th 0yC
y
Hokkaido 16th " - 20th It
Okinawa 20th - 27th 17 0
Saigon 29th - 31st " ~. ,.....~ 9 a 0~~t 4
It has been suggested, in consultation with 25X1
that if possible Sheringham could usefully spend in
ash i - two days with RPB, two to three days with Editorial,
one day with Liaison and Operations, and a day at East Coast
Bureau. But I leave myself in your hands over this.
Sheringham will have a passport valid for the United
States, Japan and Saigon, but presumably he will require a
special entrance permit for Okinawa and I would be most grateful
if you could arrange this. When the air line bookings have been
done I will let you know complete details of times, flight numbers,
etc. so that you can notify the various Bureaus and ask Bureau
Chiefs if they would be kind enough to arrange hotel accommodation
at the different ports of call.

I wonder also if you would very kindly book some suitable
hotel accommodation in Washington for him.
In accordance with our long standing arrangement with you,
I will in due course let you have the usual assurance that
Sheringham has been formally cleared for this assignment.
With kind regards,
Yours sincerely,
