Agency Image: recruiter, reported two interesting comments concerning the Agency's image with 25X1A students At Texas State Technological Institute, a two-year technical and trade school in Waco, a faculty member told him that their electronic technician students were much less interested in the Agency because they believe the functions they would be performing are those being reported on in the Watergate stories and the most recent revelations. At Grambling University, a Black school in Grambling, Louisiana, a faculty member commented that Grarnbling students would be more interested in the Agency if they knew what the Agency really did. - replied that he was counting on the faculty to apprise them of the facts in the matter. 2. Summer Intern Program: Thirty-four applicants have been accepted for the Summer Intern Program. In addition, 11 eligible returnees have written that they wish to spend a second summer in the program. 3. Recruitment: 25X1A a. Recruiter reports that his visit to North Carolina Central at Durham was exceptionally productive. He saw more and better applicants than on any of his previous visits to that campus. No one there even mentioned our recent publicity. His visit to the University of South Florida at Tampa was equally successful. Recruiter reported to us that placard- bearing students picketed the Placement Office at Virginia Polytechnic Institute in Blacksburg, Virginia on 21 January. The pickets were protesting the appearance of a CIA recruiter on campus. Warned of the picketing by the Placement Director, cancelled his interviews and remained away from the campus. He contacted several applicants with whom he has been in correspondence and conducted interviews at his motel. 25X1A 4. OJCS Program Proposal: OJCS has asked for assistance in hiring part-time computer programmers in the development of a parallel co-op program in which the students work 15 to 20 hours a week. This request will be explored with the local universities. 5. Co-op Briefing: The quarterly briefing for the new co-op students will be given by on 6 February. In addition, two to four former co-ops will present short talks and answer questions about their experiences as co-ops. 6. Summer-Only Jobs: As of 23 January 1975 we have received 367 applications for summer-only employment. Three-hundred fifty-four have been scheduled for appointments, and of this group 328 have been tested. 7. Vacancy Notices: Fifteen active vacancy notices are in circulation this week -- nine professional and six clerical. 8. Locator Card Conversion.: Work is continuing in converting the old locator system to the new CEMLOC system. Approximately 50 percent of the employee records have been coded with the additional items required in the CEMLOC system. 9. Briefing: Deputy Director of Personnel for Plans and Control, on 21 January gave a presentation to the OTR Management Seminar on "Current Agency Personnel Management Development. " Primary emphasis and discussion was directed at the new approaches as represented by the implementation of the APP, PDP and the Career Service responsibilities contained in PASG.
