The So:ietu built the "Kuldja Aerodrome" or "Cld Aerodrome" and the bungs f-cee

After completion of this airfield ana
the necessary buildings, the:, established there a school for giving Chinese Air
Force cadets instruction tn flight, navigation, bombing, gunnery and mechanics. The
capacity of this school was 500 students, of this number approximately 2) were
always student pilots.
2. In conjunction with this Sovtet training program, they based, at the Kuldja
field, 19 UT-2 Yakovlev, single eng:ne, two place advance trainers, 17 N-I5 Is-
tribuk aircraft, 18 U-16 Istribub elementary trainers and 17 ilatitts:la bombers.
Zo=e Chinese students and all Soviet inctructors were billeted right on the
field. Inc overflow of Chinese students were billeted in the Arinbak Recidentinl
District or KUldja.

This Covet school contInued to train Chinese aviators right up to the tItIc
the Soviet sponsored Moslem uprising on 11 Nov 44. The greatest number c- Chi-
nese aviators were trained from 1939 to 1941, when they also transported dc cot
aircraft to assiat the Chlnese in their war 'with Jaran. At the time of the up-
rising, the Zoviets arrested and imprisoned. all of the Chinese students =4 p,:rsonnel
at the Yuldja Alrrield and used the planes and the Kuldja and raoyenta: A'.rf:elds
to bomb ani strafe the retreating Chinese troopa.
