The Chinese who remained behind in~ as trade negotiators expressed
themselves (at all levels) in private conversation, although with due
reserve and cor.sideration,as by no means enthusiastic about the Soviets.
Th(V are particularly upset because the Soviets demand so much gratitude
for having introduced Rod China into the Palace of the Nations at Geneva.
The Chinese further complain ''that the Soviet delaying tactics do not suit
their book because the economic problems which are so urgent for China
are postponed thereby. If 1 the Chinese have their way the Genova Conference
will devote itself more to'!econ economic problems than to political ones. In
any case LChina wants to go! her own way with regard to relations with the
