2. "The eastern bank of the canal of the New Port of Gdansk begins at
the entrance to the port on the pier, from the side of iesterplatte.
This pier. J11~is.bsolutely inaccessible to the public. It is in
good condition. Near the entrance to the pier, is an installation
which gives. storm signals (,?alizac i..Burzowe?) and the direction
PodAt-?(gunkt ISierunkowy); of the port No.2) .
"The WOP (Border Guard Troops) station is situated below (No.3).
There, a ship may receive permission to lay anchor offshore 'We ac
Na Rede). Here also is a searchlight station which lights up the
entrance to the port.
"A little further to the east are certain WOe buildings (No.4):
barracks, the administration of floating units, and also the boat-
swain's office' (Boamanat) for traffic control. In the same build-
ing is quartered a unit of the Navy. Both buildings are situated
on the bank of an inner basin (No.5). On_the northern bank of this
basin, explosives are unloaded. Cargoes of explosives arrive re-
gularly from Finland, carried by a rather small ship :/S MIRA. The
northern bank of this inner basin is in good condition. The south-
ern bank is a complete ruin. The wreck of the German ship AFRICANA
still lies on the bottom there. There is usually no activity on
thi;a?.~ba~tt.. .. ....... ..
5. "At the tip of the southern bank of the inner :basin and of the main
canal there is, a small square with a 1 OP station (No.6) and n. tirW
hq;rbor(bcp:7,) for the units of 'the Harbor Master's. office and of tam
WOP.,, This is the only spot in the whole Westerplatte area, ifAere one,
ma..'.land for awhile without a special pass.
6., "A? .1?ittle farther, to the south is a newly constructed. WO5' nt}sar.jatig{t
tQ%er,.cNo..8). It probably has a radar installation. In the center of
Westerplatte is the 'monument of.-the Heroes of ,.esterplatte (No.9).
7. T'hh. whole sout}iei7~. bgnk oe lie ?vesterplatte,, along the main canal ?*e
in -a drastically bad' condition. It is made up of e: wooden,,pa.lisadC,
the sectians of which:have become rotten.. Some ships are tied
up there; if there is no room for them in the port. Here also Soviet
tugboats; usually tie'...up, e.g.., the HEF..KULisu. If there is ?a :high. .tide,
trie'tiawYers of the WOP, -and-sometimes -the unit of -tie;HA1;b(5r Master's
Office,. take shelter in this area. reign ships must be very careful
in this part of the. basin, because the bank is in such a bad condition
that it is very easy to damage it, and then the port management im-
med, lately.nendsa heavy bill for repairs. Sometimes this bank is also
used by-the naval units Dram Oksywie. .
8. "Opposite the Cape;of.Fi,ve:Whistles is the, starting point of a ferry-
boat (No.10) which connects Westerplatte with the GUM Gdanaki Uread
14oreki-Maritime office of Gdansk), on the opposite side o t ae n.
Here also is the entrance gate to :,esterp'latte (No.11).
"Westerplatte is a military area. At the entrance a large notice board
announces: 'Military area, entrance prohibited' ('Teren Wojskowy, Wate
.'lz'broniony'.). The whole Westerplatte is surrounded with a barbed ro
fence. One.cannot enter the area without a special pass issued by the
Naval Command.

of the `..i~CG` ( ad Portre Gdynia Gdansk-Management of Gdyniw-Gdansk Harbor)
(No:12)', whiclg n 'on the ?bank of a small inner basin (No.13). Thiel base
consists of-several new buildings. The old buildings which stood there pre-
viously have been destroyed. The buildings..comprise?stores, workshop's and
addu l.htrative'..o'efices.: Close "by stands a-?separate social building. The
GPGG.base.is -urrounded by its own wire fence. A special pass is necessary
to :niter it:
11. "Farther. to the south is an area- from which'-infection-and disease spreads
over'the -port: -a stagnant basin (No.14) and the base for livestockl(No.15).
The base consists of.wooden stables and sheds In which imported or,exported
cattle are kept. Here, ifi 1951, .an 'epidemic of foot-and=mouth disease broke
