The whole area situated in the rear of the frontier-segment, between Ognica and Bielinek,Sig7 is populated -Lo a rather small extent. Although the majority of the localitieswere not damaged during World War II, except for i some places like the little village of Garnowo, there are many empty houses in these villages. Especially unpopulated are the villages direct- ly on the Oder River, for example, Piaski, Radun, and Zaton Doly. The large brickworks in this locality have not been put into operation. Farther east the villages have around two-thirds the inhabitants the had in pre- World war . times. 50X1-HUM Governmaemt 9. "The At1 a area, partly densely forested (the forests remaiaod lmost cgmpletoly untouched by war actions) belongs to the NawodnaLAi/oommllnity. The community office is, however, not in this village. It has been trans- ferred to nearby Krzymow. The only reason for this distant location is that the community head (wojt) lives there. In Krzymow the community police post is alao quartered. Agriculture 3._"There are rather few PGRs (state-owned estates) in this community. There is.a large one in Krzymow. There are two small ones in Graniczna and Bary, both in the southern parts of the community, in the vicinity of, ti7,rz town of. ChoJna. 4. 11Up to Aug 53 only one kolkhoz has been set up in Nawodna. "The majority of the population are resettlers from behind the BuE line. They make their living as individual farmers (the average size of a farm is around 7 to 10heotAres). Thdn&try 6. The Nawodna community has no special industry, except one brewery (44'duAtBd%in"Krzymotii and .the -flour-mills in Lisie Pole.
