(a) is the best of the journals, as such. Not all of these publications in the clinical fields than in the fundamental sciences.I physicians are more effectively organized into associations and thus have better facilities for report- ing their researcJi efforts. There is no separate journal. either in physiology or in biochemistry. ractice.lly no Soviet medical pu w ons were coming n o the country. There was LL good representation of ]uropear journals in the libraries and a tremendous interest in TM journals. However, the shortage of dollars is felt quite critically in this area and the possibilities of acquir- ing US publications were severly limited. The greatest weakness of medical practice in Yugoslavia is the lack of an adequate number of physicians. Another weakness may be the overcrowding in the medical schools and the impact of eight years of war and turbulence. The best available. review of research in the biological sciences is contained in the program of the First Congress of Yugosla- vian Bic logists, 12 - 15 July 1953. This report indicates not only the direction of research but the individuals involved. 25X1 CONFIDENTIAL Approved For Release 2005/07/13 : CIA-RDP80-00809A000500590209-3 Approved For Release 2005/07/13 : CIA-RDP80-00809A000500590209-3 25X1 25X1 COWMENTIP, -3 - 25X1 25X1 25X1 25X1 The possibilities of study abroad har significantly increased Tact n er of better -trained research scientists who axe?iatereated and anxious to keep up contract with 0 medical bcience.
