1. The area in the vicinity of Bcjkovice (49?o2'N - 17049'E), Province of Moravia,
Czechoslovakia, is basically a farming section. Countryside is the foothills of
the Bile Karpaty Mountains, and the site of eeveral spa. Population is
concentrated in towns and villages.. No isolated homesteads exist.
2. Wheat in the cash crop. Individual gardens are cultivated to supply family table
requirements. Cool climate results in a short growing season.
Edibles growing in a wild state include hazel nuts, strawberries, fruit and
mushrooms, with the latter found in profusion. Spring water is abundant.
4. Pine forests cover the uncu=riveted a:eae, which are usually the steeper hills.
Undergrowth is sparse in woods due tc lack of sunlight. In addition, much dead and
fallen timber is collected for firewood.
17- 1 Snow is moderate inamount and does not
blanket the countrysi .
6. Resources of the area include a coal mine at Otrokovice (49?12'H 17?32'E) and
numerous hot springs. A prominent spa is Luhacovice (49?06'N - 17?46'E), site of
numerous cottages and several hotels. Various therapeutic treatments are available.

7. The network of co>ttry roads traversing the area is of cr 3hed rocks, rolled to form a
reasonably smooth surface, Such roads are all-weather. 13yroadt are usually dirr
and impassable in wet weather.. A crushed rock road is that connecting Uh Ostroh
(48?59'N - 17?24'E) and Bylnice (49?05'N - 18?O1'E) via Uh Brod (49?Ol'N - 17?39'E).
Railroad connecting the eame toms is narrow-gauge.
