THIS IS UNEVALUATED INFOIRMATION ~,
~ The Albani;zn Home Service from Radio Tirana is, in the main, broadcast
simultaneously by -t?ransmitter~s in five other cities; distinct regional
programling is confined to secondary material. The programs are well
organized grid well presented: Male and i'emale announcers use good dicticln
and clear, simple Albanian. News and commentary are interspersed with
feature and cultural. prograu One daily period is devoted to detailed
home '.news, or.e to dictation-speed news for outlying area, and two to
'relaying Mc?caw'~, Albanian broadcasts.
Domestic news rind cormner.~ in the home service, unlike that beamed
(abroad, contains a large proportion of self-criticism. Foreign news and
comment is based largely on TASS or taken from Cominform and Soviet journals.
The Soviet li:ie is .followed closely. Tito is a frequent target.
~'s Foreign Service
I' The programs in other European languages are broadcast frccn T3raaa only.
Th~:ir quality ixx general is far inferior to that of the home', service.
a. Greek: A male announcer reads nevrscasts and commentlaries in poor
Greek with faulty sentence construction, giving the impressiox- that the
script is written by someone~whoae knowledge of Greek is inadequate. Diction
is poor. The programs follow the Soviet pattern and Soviet ~.ine. The
source of news i.e seldom mentioned. Weaterzl policies are deiounced, particu-
Iarly Anglo-~bner~i.can :imperia ism in the Aalkarns.
I'I' b. Serbo-Croat: F'rograuus are read by a female announcer in very poor
Serbo-Croat. Diction is poor. Sentence strv.cture is incorrect and the
scripts a~ e ui~viously translations from Albanian. The announcer appears to
lie an Albanir.,n. tlewscasts and brief commentaries are broadcast. News is
for the most p:~i?t under foreign datelines. Commentaries are on either
domestic or international topics and are announced as having been prepared
liy -the "c~nunentator.'T The Soviet pattern is followed closely in all 'uroad-
caets. 'Che programs are on a low intellectual level, apparent],y for the
tie*-efit of the lower cl.asses.~ Any mention of Tito or the Ti', o co-porkers is
accompanied by vitriolic adjectives.
i
~~'~ o'. Turkish: A 1_ow Turkish, grammatically incorrect, is~u~ed by a male
announcer. Ariparently the announcer is Albanian, and scripts are translated
from A1bFinia~;. 'Pl:e netiKSCast~i ~~, ql~e~ cries never attack Turkey. On
