THIS IS UNkVALUATED INFORMATION Approved For Release 2003/110/01 : CIA- 1 25X1 A Approved For Release 2003/10/01 : CIA-RDP80-00809 CONFIDENTIAL In the Ukraine and elsewhere additional pay is offered to tractor and truck drivers and other collective farm workers as an inducement to greater efforts. Evidence of growing official concern about the fodder crop prospects for the coming winter is seen in the repeated "serious warnings" against a repetition of the mistakes made last year when much cattle was lost through insufficient feed. Sugar cane, it is intimated, will require a great deal more attention and maintenance work before a decent crop is assured. Intensified official activities in Georgian SSR to stem the tide of abuse and pilferage in agriculture is evidenced from recent broadcasts from that Republic. One of the Georgian Party's chief tasks now appears to be the reclaiming of collective farm funds and lands already stolen or squandered. Official indifference to corruption in agriculture is laid also to Uzbek SSR. Lack of publicity given to Party life and activities in the regional press is the only topic discussed in the few available broadcasts on Party affairs. Some of the leading Uzbek and Kazakh dailies and periodicals are said to be guilty of too little and too ;nadequate attention to Party matters. A thoroughgoing improvement, PRAVDA hints, may be in store for them. Approved For Release 2003/10/01 : CIA-RDP80-00809A000500740090-8
