1. An airfield is being built north of Budapest, between Rdkosszentmihdly and
Rdikoapalota. Its northern boundary is the Szilas brook, its southern, the
Felszabadu_ds road. The prevailing winds are northwest-southeast. The field
is 3,000 m by about 800 m.
2. The cemeteries of F-estu,jhelyi .emeta and Palotaujfalusi temeto were exhumed to
provide room for the field. It would seem likely that the field will be extended
northward and the Szilas brook canalized.
3. The nearby villages have only one-story houses and so present no serious obstacles.
The ground is a sandy loam. As it is quite uneven, grading work has been in
progress since the fall of 1952. About 400 men ~.re at work on the field, but no
buildings have been constructed as yet.
4. There are underground depots in the Nunts Garden in Rdkosszentmihdly. Ventilation
tubes have been observed and also some wooden structures, but the latter appear to
be for purposes of camouflage.
5. Opposite this installation, at the corner of Jozsef utca and Rdkospalotai hatdrut
there is a Red Star kolkhoz, whose members have been strictly forbidden to enter
the Nunts Garden. The buildings are to be evacuated and turned over to the Honved.
6. Both Rdkospalotai hatdrut and Jozsef utca are guarded by military posts, whose
members are changed daily. During the night the place is brilliantly lighted, and
from three hours before to two hours after midnight there is heavy truck traffic.
It is not clear whether the depots are connected with the airfield.
