The first fully automatic blast furnace has been put into service at the Hutten-
kombinat Furstenberg-Oder. The automatic firing and feeding is expected to
provide abetter distribution of the furnace charge, shorten the throughput
time, and produce a high recovery. Construction of the furnace was done by the
VS8 Haschinenbau Kottbus. _
