OF ENCLS. SUPP. TO REPORT NO. 1. Ever since Titols break with the Cominform the work of fortifying the Rumanian- Yugoslav border-has progressed steadill.-. The closed area along the border varies according to the geograpl;iy, being narrowest in the Carpathian mountains, but the usual width is 12 km. 2. Within this closed area numerous concrete bunkers, machine gun nests and gun positions have been built, many of them connected by communications trenches. 3. Timisoara now has a border guard area command of divisional strength. Some 15 battalions of border guards along the Yugoslav border are under this command, with a total strength of some 9,000 men. There have been numerous rumors of maneuvers of strong army units in this area, but they are completely untrue. There have been no major troop movements for the last five months. 4. TimiaQara also has a corps command of the Rumanian Army, with troops of all arms. DISTRIBUTION 6# 1 STATE
