1. A camp and exercise area is 3 Ism west of Sobeslav. The .camp is 1?7
950 in, surrounaeo by barbed wire, placed north oi' the Sobeslav Nodv.cditz road.
It consists of two staff barracks, a hospital, an office buiLoing,"12 quarters
buildings, a kitchen and a magazine. In additio tents are erected as
needed. The barracks were built during the German occupation, and can eaxe '(00 men.
More barracks are being built, with a view to doubling the capacity of the
installation.
2. During the summer of 1953 units were brought to the camp from Btdejovice and its
neighborhood. A rifle battalion of the Budejovice infantry regiment was present.
It consisted of the battalion staff, 65 men; three rifle companies, each of
90 or 95 men, each with 1. Soviet light machine guns, one Maxim heavy machine gun
and two bazookas; and one training company for reservists of the class of 1925,
of 145 to 160 men. Commander of this company was 1st Lt. Kollar;, training officer,
Lt. Jedlicek.

3. The battalion was inspected by the regimental commander once every two months. It
is not motorized, except for four trucks belonging to the quartermaster section.
4. Target practice was held very seldom and there were few alarm exercises.
5. Morale is generally poor and political training makes little impression. TTha
reservists were called up in Mar 1953 to learn to handle the new Soviet ;:capons
and to be instructed according to Soviet ethods. All the training is nractica..,
no time being given to theory.
