A new artillery camp and target range was set up three km southeast of Vdrosl6d
during 1953. It is in the Usthegy forest,near hill 537, ending at the third-class
road Urkut-Szentgdl. Not all the buildings are complete, but four one-story brick
buildings for offices and officers' quarters and four one-story magazines were ready
during the current year.
2. About 5,500 artillerists ,:ere In the camp during the summer. Among these were an
artillery regiment from K zzthely, an artillery regiment from Gyor and an artillery
section from Polgdrdi. Tne Gyov unit had 1,400 to 1,450 men, including reservists
called up for refresher training.
3. The men were housed in tents :.cross; a wide area. There was no barbed wire, but
day and night patrols prevented all entry.
4. Near the camp was a target range, also closely guarded. Peasants were not
allowed to work their fields when firing was taking place.
5. Tests of new guns were made. There were also exercises in firing on fixed targets,
concentrations of fire and battle practice, including continual movement between
shoots.
