1. By an order which almost certainly came from the Soviet Control Commission at
Karlshorst, the national railways of the People=s Republic (DDR)_are required
to make a full report by 20 Nov 53 of the production possibilities of their
.repair shops. The following information is called for: (a) Total area of each
separate shop; (b) Number of employees, broken down into skilled workers,
semiskilled workers and office employees; (c) Statement of the present available
machinery its condition, and of materials on hand; Information and cost estimates
on profitable enlargements are also asked for.
2. As the general railway administration at Dresden knows well, a beginning has
alreedy t'aen made on the improvement of the repair shops. Great weight is being
laid on modern lathes; each shop is to have two additional turret lathes. At
the srme time the Dresden genersi administration has set up a committee which
visited the individual shops and reported on progress. d. beginning has also
been made of liquidating the unprofitably operating so-called machinery lending
stations and distributing the machines among the national railway repair shops.
