The Hungarian AAA divisions are under the National AAA Command in Budapest, which is in turn. subordinate to 'he Defense Ministry. 2. A distinction must be made between the so-called "home divisions", which are independent, and the non-independent or "route divisions" of AAA. Both types of divisions at present consist of four regiments each, but-they are different in number of batteries and in equipment. 3. Th non-independent divisions consist of two medium AAA ':giments (85 mm guns) of two be(:.1uns each, L111r11 VWU Dai+iaCL'lU:s I+,+. d JC,itr Lun, ana two light ALA regiments with automatic 37 mm guns. The light AAA regiments now have two sections of three batteries each. Each battery of both the light and medium regiments has four heavy machine guns, an R/3 radio station and a communications platoon. The regiments have an observation and information platoon, a communications company, a machine gun company and supportinrr services. 4. The independent AAA divisions have two regiments, each with three heavy and medium sections, and two light AAA regiments. The heavy and medium .ections have three batteries each. Down to the fall of 1950 *there was only one independent AAA regiment in Budapest. In a reorganization two more regiments were set up, and the regiment became a division. In November 1951, cadres from this division were used to form a second AAA division, with its station at Koe rom. The division remallaing in Budapest is established in the Mdtyds barracks at 25X1 Hungdria Ring 81. 7. The medium regiment is the 77th, in the rAtyds barracks. The second medium regiment is in Budafok. One of the light regiments is at Ferihegy airfield at Budapest. 8. The divisional commander is Col. Ldszld gornyei, an old professional officer. Major Andor Jecsi,the commander of the 77th Regiment,ic also a professional officer. 9. Each battery has :--5 officers and 75 men. Officers are equipped with pistols, the men with rifles. Each platoon has a machine pistol. Equipment in general is old, partly of Soviet manufacture, partly of Hungarian and German pieces from World War II. The age of the guns is evident from the fact that their range is limited.to 8,500 m. The regiments of the. division hold their summer firing practice in the Borzsony mountains, in an area barred to civilians during the period. 10. The Mdtyds barracks also holds the staff of ALA division.38. The regiments of the division are scattered, a light regiment in We, another in Szdke3feh4rvdr, a medium regiment in Szolnok and the other in DunafGldvdr. Commander of the 38th AAA Division is Lieut. Col. Mikld Borbdk; his deputy is Major Jdnos Sdrkozi, from the $,ossuth Academy. The defense section is headed by a former merchant named Anton Fischer. The political officer is Major ,Jdsef Kapu. The divisional staff is about 150 trongli'-It is equipped with two 20 mm automatic guns, two radios R/7L, two R/7B and two R/3. The R/7L apparatus has 3,700-3,800 kilocycles. Approved For.
