TO REPORT NO. 1. Mixed maneuvers began on 3 Mar 54, in the vicinity of Kotel, northeast of Sliven. Units engaged were the 36th Motorized RegiaenI; 19th Motorized Regiaent;.23rd, 9th, and 51st Light Artillery; some parachute units.. The command was in the hands of Soviet officers. 2. An independent cavalry brigade is stationed at Duduktcha Lsic7at Shipka. Associ- ated with it is the 61st Infantry, which ; is 'stationed north of Shipka, very probably. as part of the 26th InfantryDivision. 3. Since the early part of March 1954, packing cases have been transported to the military depots of Tsipan in the regions of Teiraci and Gb'k Pala. These contain hand grenades and other monitions. On 4 Apr 54,,. 250 kilogram bombs and rockets were arriving at the Teiraci depot. This depot is well camouflaged by trees. It has an iron framework. Everything Is underground and of the most modern construction. hit
